Create a timeline from loading to delivery. Record places, times, participants, visible checks, door openings, transhipments and interim storage. At every handover it should be clear which goods, container and condition are being described.
Photograph packaging, labels, seals, closures, pallets and the inside of the transport unit. Condensation, ice, damaged insulation or visible contamination may also matter later. Take photographs before cleaning or restacking.
Preserve damaged packaging and load carriers unless safety or hygiene reasons prevent it. If the goods must be segregated, chilled, processed or discarded immediately, record the reason, decision, participants and condition beforehand.
